Tips for cardholders
Be aware of the following facts:
- Put your signature on the back of your new card the moment you receive it.
- Keep your card in a safe place - never leave it in your car.
- Don’t write your account number on the card or signature panel.
- Notify us immediately if your card is lost or stolen card, and ask for a reference code - you’ll need it for later enquiries or disputes
- Your card in not transferable to any other person; don’t allow anyone else to use your card.
- Ensure that your own card is returned to you after a transaction.
- Never divulge your account number or PIN to unauthorised parties. (No-one, not even bank officials, will ever need to know your PIN number).
- Keep records of your transactions and report discrepancies immediately.
- Make sure your card is returned to you after purchases.
- Handle your card as if it was cash.
- Avoid placing your cards near devices that generate magnetic fields such as televisions, computers, cellphones, etc.
- Avoid remote or secluded ATMs and don’t use an ATM when you’re alone, or late at night.
- Never show strangers your card. Be sure no-one is looking over your shoulder while you key in your PIN at an ATM.
- Report suspicious behaviour by bystanders or unusual objects at an ATM, such as a camera or a false keypad fitted on top of the ATM keypad.
- Stand close to the ATM, thus reducing the chances of someone switching or snatching your card as it comes out.
- Never allow a bystander to call the number on your behalf.
- Don’t ask for or accept help from anybody at an ATM.
- Change you PIN whenever you think it has been compromised.
- Tear or shred personal information before throwing it away as identity thieves may pick through your trash or recycling bins to take over your personal information.
